I’ve been following AngryBeth on Tumblr for a shortwhile.  She’s a Leeds based artist working in Second Life.  Her blog on blogspot is an interesting meander through creating in that space and the possiblilities.

I’ve been keeping an eye on Second Life for a while now - not in any great indepth way.  My first foray was a couple of years ago and I realised that the time and comittment I’d need to give it just to figure out how to use the mouse was not at a stage that I wanted to jump in.  And my computer had too slow a processor.  But I could also see that it was going somewhere and shortly, when it had got a little easier - I’d be getting on board.

And maybe you read a recent article about the first Second Life divorce?  Sure, people use tools in all kinds of ways - some positive, some negative.

Above is an explanation by Philip Rosedale, founder of Second Life of what is happening on there.  What he says that is of interest to me is about how we organise information on the internet.  Predominately it is text and images.

Second Life organises information using iconic symbols.  Which are easier to store, retain and find and more accessible to all humans. And the way in which information is experienced, consumed and explored on Second Life is social.  And social learning - utilising the minds of many - is part of what being described as the global information evolution or revolution - though I personally prefer evolution.   And group access to group thinking allows for a greater and faster evolution as peoples skills, knowledge, talents and abilities are able to be accessed non conflictorially for development.

Recovery work in Second Life has some very interesting possiblities therefore.
