Thank you to Peter Foulston for his Wordle of my Twitter RSS Feed.
I was a little nervous to see what I’d actually been twittering about all this time!
But it turns out to be relevant, phew!

Staying cool...
Today I’m re-blogging Eddy & Mind Your Head - Student Led Mental Health work from Leeds.
mindyourheadleeds:
Freshers’ Week is over and as usual campus was absolutely buzzing. Free pizza, medieval swordsmen, a game called ’spot the gay’, someone to throw wet sponges at (sorry mate..), cheerleaders, token sweets and pens, a not so token hypnotising dog, it was all happening! The girls...

De-Mystifying the NHS
Ah,this would be a neat trick! Like uncorking the genie and having the answers to any conundrum that crosses another’s lips.
But I did attend Yorkshire and Northern’s ASSIST event of the same name.
My intention was to develop my understanding of the NHS infrastructure and connection channels as much to understand the fundamental role that Information plays in developing that...
Speaking at Boots Subject Focused Conference on Dementia - Person Centred Care I’ve spent a little time considering whether Dementia is actually mental health or disability.
When I say that I mean where it sits on funding streams as well as approach.
The issue IMH have been raising at the conference during our address is the The Culture Shift in Information and Dementia in the context of...
Living Well, Living Longer....
There’s no way to help but notice the change in climate, economically, politically and strategically.
Lately all those active in mental health will have become aware of the commissioning processes now evident in implementation in Leeds. We’re all involved in consolidation, cost cutting, quality driving and are now surveying the scene. Noticing the impact on ourselves and others. Not...

Digital Engagement Space →
I’ve been on a short hiatus from this space. Not entirely intentional.
But.
things move so fast in the Digital World that I needed a brief ‘stop the clock’.
I was at The Digital Inclusion Conference 2009 this week. More to come on this - in particular my response to the Health Workstream I attended. Which stood out from the e-engagement, community & 21st century...

Meet Mark Hawker and some of what he’s doing… (he’s also behind Healthcamp Leeds)
markhawker:
Today I delivered a 4 minute, 13 slide, lightning talk to a group of 50 healthcare high fliers at a “Future eHealth Systems Master Class” at the University of Leeds on being a digital consumer. Attendees included a Director and Assistant Director at The Health Informatics Service, our...
HealthCamp Leeds →
Hello!
Great news today - HealthCampLeeds will be looking to take place around June time - although that may be subject to change and possibly will take into account being part of the Leeds Web Festival but I’ll keep you updated about that as and when I know.
More information about Health Camp is available here
I’ll be there along with @mikechitty . To sign up - follow the link...
How social media can save lives... →
I’ve mentioned a few times about how in practice based discussions with service leaders in Leeds I’ve heard the comment that social media and networking is too high a risk to engage in.
The reason given being that there will likely be individuals encouraged to take their own lives or copy cat suicides. I point out each time that an individual must have suicidal intent to do this -...

March Guest Spot - Jon Beech
I’m introducing a new feature to the dysconnected blog. An end of the month guest spot on perspectives specific to social media and mental health. If you’d like to get in on the guest spot action email me at kate.brown@imhleedmind.org.uk
It’s good to talk.

Thanks to all who came to the IMH Seminar this morning at Old Broadcasting House. We did a whistle stop tour of some of the current web technologies in use and the issues relating to them individually.
We also discussed, very usefully to my mind, the overalll issues. The sum of which I increasingly find are the foundations for this very blog. I’ve been applying the (many different kinds) of...

So your doctor has just prescribed you a new medication to address whatever it is that’s ailing you. How do you know what the side effects might be? Sure, your doctor will probably explain them…
Even just two years ago the idea of online rating by users of services and medications were feared and heavily opposed. Fear and opposition however, do not stop online development. Here...
What I've been doing... →
Last year whilst attending some training with Mental Health Media in Leeds I was approached by one of the facilitators and asked if I’d be interested in delivering training with her in the future.
I’ve been around for about 12 years in Mental Health and related work and activity. Some of which has included delivering training and facilitating various kinds of groups. I enjoy this...
Just a quick note to say that I´m on leave at the moment.
I´ve been delivering training in London for MIND and Open Up.
I´m now in Madrid for my first International Art Exhibition.
Development work leads to some interesting places.
Leeds PFT website →
Leeds PFT have re-developed their website.
Its interesting. And a move closer to Health 2.0 - which was initiated by medical services in the US so not unexpected.
Its an impossible feat to produce a corporate site that has appeal as a service-user led space. By token they are in complete opposition to each other. How can a corporate led site be service-user led?
It’s a good...

The International Society for Mental Health Online →
Which is pretty much what it says on the tin.
As always I’ll add the addendum that this seems mainly aimed at Practitioners so the premise is on the use of technology in a practitioning sense.
Another link that I said I’d post for the Counselling Services in Leeds is The Online Therapy Institute - who also offer counselling online or via text or other mediums.

Getting social media approved by your boss →
I’ve been seeing this going around on twitter and various places at the moment.
It is American - as is everything encompassing about health, non profit and social media currently.
I’m in conversation at the moment with Jody Ranck and spending some time thinking about a Global Mobile Health Collaboratory
I suppose whilst I’m aware that ‘things’ are happening all...

Great post about collapse-anxiety due to economic times.
I couldn’t help but note the comment left by slizzered
wonderful nod to what we have known for a while now in mental health. Seems like with our knowledge we could really make a difference to how people are feeling right now.

Delivering Digital Britain →
I’m a bit fed up about this.
The Digital Inclusion Action Plan and it’s profiling of vulnerable groups is gathering momentum.
So why is this being delivered in London?
Let’s hope that they’re going to be livestreaming it.

I spotted this a little while ago and foolishly didn’t share it with you sooner. It’s a fantastic example on the use of twitter to connect globally, raise profile, raise money for a good cause and bring people together locally - Internationalised Community Building.

I’m alpha testing the re-developed Information for Mental Health website. In my (over dramatic) mind - it’s a bit like Pan’s Labyrinth.
Re-designing a well used and well loved resource is an interesting process. I came in, fresh as a daisy and eagerly critiqued - IMH online - The First Generation. I talked vimeo and blogger - I tagged tags. I was all interactivity, intution and...
I said I was tired last week. I was tired. This week has brought new connections that have prompted me to feel re-energised. I was fortunate enough to be invited to speak at Ignite in the North by Imran Ali last month. I posted some of the footage from that talk here a short while ago. What I’d hoped was that might be the beginning of a dialogue between the tech world in Leeds and the mental...

This is something that gets said to me regularly in a variety of different ways and inevitably people would like me to say ‘here - I have the magic answer to your mental health information issues’
I don’t though.
But. I do have a pretty neat trick. It looks like magic but, I’m going to show you how it’s done. It starts with the link above.

But there has been a recent explosion and Academic Earth is an example of this.
I’m fascinated by the short and long term impact that free learning will have on society.
The Government’s recognition of the need for a Digital Inclusion Strategy is the knowledge that the workplace over the next few years will increasingly require it’s...
n.b. apologies on this. I can only seem to get the first 2.44 minutes working. However. I thought half was better than none so I’ll leave it up. If you’d like to know more drop me a line - happy to have a face to face or telephone continuation.

Change is Coming/Scary/Exciting
Here’s an easy way for me to illustrate the changes happening through all industry and people on an individual level.
I know that change is difficult. We talk about ‘managing change’ and we accept that things take time for people to find their feet. The growth of this change has accelerated as is stated in the post below at an unprecedented rate due to the economic climate.

and a little extra for you today.
I’ve been fiddling around with the idea of broadcasting for a short while and so researching on some neat little video’s. This one just made me smile and I figured that was good for my mental health as the back to work blues start to take the edge off my sunshine vibe this month.
So. It’s recovery focused still. Isn’t it? :)

Unknown unknowns: assessing media futures →
“If we are to facilitate innovation in the media, we need a clear understanding of the forces and dynamics that shape it and the relationship of media, technology and society in general. Today we also need to interrogate the widely held view that technology drives business and society, and that progress is linear and inevitable. We might even question the revolutionary hype around the media...
